Description

Pinguicula caerulea is a warm-temperate butterwort known for its spectacular purple and veined flowers. This species grows bright green leaves with tightly curled margins. It has no dormancy period and will flower readily in the spring with lobed, purple flowers with stunning veination on tall stalks.

Pinguicula caerulea originates from the southeastern United States and grows in sandy, well-drained soils. It can be grown like most warm-temperate or subtropical species and prefers consistent moisture levels without being soggy.

Packs will have 30+ small seeds.

Growing Information

Climate: Temperatures from 50-95F, prefers some humidity but can adapt to low humidity.

Light: Part Sun or 10-15W per sq ft LED light.

Water: Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. Sitting in 1” of water using tray method. Only use distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater because tap water is toxic to carnivorous plants due to high mineral content and chlorine.

Soil: 35% Peat Moss: 65% Perlite/Sand. Rinse media with distilled or reverse osmosis water to remove excess salts. Well-draining sandy soils seem best.

Feeding: Lightly feed leaves with Insect Powder every couple weeks or so. Can also be lightly sprayed with foliar fertilizer at 400 ppm.
