Drosera trinervia (Stormsvleikloof, South Africa) [SEEDS]
Description
Drosera trineria is a lovely, highly variable Winter-Growing Sundew from South Africa. It produces smallish rosettes (~1” diameter) of strap-shaped leaves completely covered in tentacles and ranging from green to orange to red in color. As a Winter-Growing Sundew, it grows during the cool, wet winter and goes dormant during the dry summer. It typically has white flowers and can self-pollinate easily with simple germination. A fairly easy species for the South African Winter-Growers and good for beginners to these types of Sundews. This form originates from Stormsvleikloof, South Africa and is larger and more robust than some other forms.
In the wild, Drosera trinervia can be abundant in the Western and Northern Cape areas where it can grow in a variety of wet areas. It generally has a summer dormancy where it will die back to its fleshy roots after flowering and wait until winter time to sprout again. These have a similar seasonality to Tuberous Sundews and can grown similarly. However, in my experience, South African Winter-Growing Sundews prefer cooler and slightly moister summer dormancy given their climate and the root’s proximity to the surface.
Packs will have 30+ seeds.
Growing Information
Climate: Mediterranean (SW Australia). 40-85F, low to moderate humidity. High temperatures can cause the plants to prematurely go dormant.
Light: Full to Part Sun or 15W per sq ft LED light. These love bright light.
Water: Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. Sitting in 1” of water using tray method. This species can tolerate wet conditions quite well.
Soil: 40% Peat: 60% Sand is a good mix.
Feeding: Feed leaves with Insect Powder every month or so.
