Drosera aliciae [SEEDS]
Description
Drosera aliciae is an excellent rosetted sundew with its relatively large size and dense pattern of leaves. It can produce 10-20 thick, wedge-shaped leaves in rosettes up to 3” in diameter. When grown in strong light, the entire plant will accumulate red coloration that contrasts with the large dew drops. It produces tall flower stalks with pink flowers that readily self-pollinate to produce seed. It is highly adaptable and easily to grow outdoors in mild climates or indoors under lights.
One of the many species from South Africa, Drosera aliciae is a fantastic species for any collection and great for beginners. It can be easily grown in bright light sitting in a shallow tray of water. Like many sundews, it can grow long, thin roots so it does appreciate deeper pots (though not required). It will die back to the roots from frost, but will readily regrow from the roots. Like many vigorous sundews, it will grow new plantlets from the roots and can create nice clumps over time. It also produces large amounts of seed that are easy to germinate and grow as well. Like most sundews, they love to be fed fish food powder on their dewy leaves and will curl in response. This will stimulate vigorous growth.
Packs will have 30+ seeds.
Growing Information
Climate: Temperatures from 40-100F, all humidity levels. Frost may cause them to die back to the roots, but they can regrow.
Light: Full Sun or 20W per sq ft LED light.
Water: Distilled or Reverse Osmosis water. Sitting in 0.5”-1” of water using tray method. Only use distilled, reverse osmosis, or rainwater because tap water is toxic to carnivorous plants due to high mineral content and chlorine.
Soil: 50% Peat Moss: 50% Perlite/Sand. Rinse media with distilled or reverse osmosis water to remove excess salts.
Feeding: Feed leaves with Fish Food Powder every month or so.
