Bog Mix - Carnivorous Plant Soil

$10.00

Most of the common carnivorous plants come from wet, peaty bog environments. This includes flytraps (Dionaea), most subtropical sundews (Drosera), American Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia), and many terrestrial bladderworts (Utricularia). They love to be wet and acidic with some aeration. All flytraps love this standard mix. Sundews like Drosera capensis, Drosera aliciae, Drosera spatulata, Drosera binata (var. multifida and var. dichotoma) and many more will thrive in this mix (check individual species pages for soil preferences). All species of American Pitcher Plants will also do great in this mix, especially in deeper pots. Most terrestrial bladderworts will also do great, including Utricularia sandersonii, Utricularia fulva, Utricularia livida, Utricularia blanchetii, and Utricularia bisquamata.

This BOG mix is a blend of professional grade, blonde/coarse peat moss with medium-coarse perlite. It is a standard, highly versatile mix that works for many different species of carnivorous plant. It is excellent for the tray method of watering which keeps the pots sitting in water. The water will wick up through the soil and keep it at a constant moisture level, while also be very easy to manage (simply keep water in the tray).

One quart of this mix can fill approximate 4 of the standard 2.5”W x 3.5”H nursery pots.
